NON-NEGOTIABLES

Non-Negotiables.

I recently completed Season 3 of The Bear (which is so beautifully shot and acted) and was inspired by Carmy’s Non-Negotiables list. What a brilliant scene! It’s a great idea to ensure that standards are met and consistency is upheld throughout your working practice. Although the Bear is set in a toxic work environment and Carmy’s non-negotiables are as destructive as they are helpful, I love the overall concept.

Here are my Non-Negotiables that I maintain with all of my clients:

-Manage expectations. From the outset make sure that everyone on board understands and agrees on the parameters and deliverables.

-Transparency. Being open and honest about any issues or changes before and during production.

-Consistency. Maintaining the same high-quality artwork on each frame on every project.

-Availability. Being on hand for the client and responding quickly and efficiently to their needs.

-Collaboration. The project is the star of the show so don’t let your ego get in the way of creativity.

-The customer is always right. Something my father passed on to me (and he was an actual chef!).

What are your non-negotiables?

*artwork is inspired by The Bear. I didn’t actually produce the storyboards on the series, although I wish I had. If you have a great drama series coming up that needs storyboarding, give me a shout!
